Deworming medicine for cattle
Cattle deworming medicine
INTRODUCTION:
Worm infestation is one such production disease impacting all farm animals.
Internal or external parasites are a major cause of disease and production loss in cattle, frequently causing significant economic loss and impacting on animal welfare. In addition to the impact on animal health and production, control measures are costly and often time-consuming. Internal parasites in cattle are found more in those animals which graze on open land.
To earn profit from cattle farming deworm your cattle at regular intervals, don’t wait for worms to completely destroy the health of your cattle.
Deworm your cattle as deworming controls internal parasites(worms) such as Roundworms, Lungworms, Intestinal worms, Tapeworms, Liver Flukes. As internal parasites utilize nutrition, so cattle thereby will not get appropriate nutrition & hence there is poor growth & production of cattle. Poor growth & production of cattle adversely affect efficiency of the animals and cause a financial loss to their owners. That is why deworming is important to overcome internal parasites to improve production & reproduction of the animals. Deworming cattle helps to keep your livestock healthy and ultimately supports your farming business to flourish.
Roundworms:
Many different kinds of roundworm live as parasites in the stomach and intestines of cattle.
Size of roundworms, shape and effect on the animal varies.
Lungworms:
Lungworms are white threadlike worms. They are about 1 mm thick and 6-8 mm long.
Lung worms cause lung disease in cattle by growing in the lungs or in the trachea/windpipe.
Their presence causes swelling in the trachea/windpipe, and causes difficulty in breathing.
Liver flukes:
Liver flukes are flat like a leaf. They are grey-brown in colour.
They occur mostly in animals residing in areas affected by water-logging and salinity.
When animals swim in polluted ponds and drink polluted water, liver fluke enter stomach, their larvae reach the liver of the animals through blood vessels.
Tapeworms:
Tapeworms are long, flat worms divided into segments. A large number of different tapeworms exist. Adult worms live in the intestines of human beings and animals.
Tapeworms live in the intestines of cattle.
There are no specific symptoms of tapeworms in cattle until the dung is tested.
Rumen flukes (Paramphistomes)
Another kind of fluke, rumen flukes, often live in the stomachs of cattle.
They are pear-shaped, up to 1.5 cm long and have a bright red colour.
Amphistomes
Adult amphistomes are the primary parasite found in livestock.
The adult parasites are pear-shaped, pink or red and attach to the lining of the rumen. Immature forms are found in the duodenum
The amphistomes are responsible for lowering nutrition conversion and result in a loss of weight and/or a decrease in milk production, causing great economic losses
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS YOUR CATTLE IS SUFFERING FROM INTERNAL PARASITE(WORMS):
Diarrhea
Loss of weight
Low productivity
Poor health
Low immunity
Weakness and slow growth
Decreased production
Thin, rough & dry hair coat
Blood loss(anemia)
Poor body condition
Dehydration
Blood in feces
Death at an early age
PREVENTION OF WORMS IN CATTLE
Deworm calves at 2 weeks & thereafter in every 1-month interval up to 6 months.
Deworm adult cattle every 3 months & most importantly before & after rainy season.
Pregnant animals should also be dewormed twice, 1st dose near its calving time and the 2nd dose around 6-7 weeks after calving.
To avoid dewormer resistance, do not use the same dewormer repeatedly.
Keep any shed clean to reduce the risk of parasite infestation.
Keep sick cattle isolated from the rest of the herd.
Don’t feed cattle on unclean ground.
Avoid overstocking graze.
Keep animals away from water clogged area.
BENEFITS OF DEWORMING CATTLE
